Get Web Design Clients

So how about a few ideas on getting the all important new clients or as I like to call it being able to eat as a freelance web designer.

I think a lot of times we miss the simple ideas weather its because were trying to keep up with the latest technologies or chasing agter the all too familar clent that has failed to pay there invoice. Finding new clients can get a little frustrating. so here are a few Ideas

1. Freelace Web Design Sites -- Put it in google if you need some examples. Very usefull if your hungry. On the plus side there is lots of work and its all freelace. The down side your competting with designers and developers all over the world so bids are really way lower then what you would normally do the work for.

2. Classifide Ads -- Sites like craigslist and backpage are great places to make freash contacts. Keep your web design ads simple and honest. I see alot of fancy image ads and so forth. My own experace - I list ads as Memphis Web Designer Seeks Prject then ad a brief paragraph with my website information etc.. I get alot of work through my classifide listings. The first thing I do every morning while having that first cup of coffee is go and post a simple ad on these two sites.

3. Send your Resume to local Ad Agencies -- On the up side they will keep you busy if you do good work. On the down side you need to pay attetion to your billing especially on stuff like consulting and meeting with clients with them.

4. Print up some flyers and take an afternoon walk through your local downtown area. If you go early in the morning theres a good chance to catch the owner. Don't try to do a sales pitch just drop your flyer and leave. People want what they can't have if they try to get more info tell them your on a schedule but you can call them later to set up a time to talk.

5. Visit your local flea market or a craft show. Print up some simple business cards and give them out again don't try to sell your web design services. Just drop off the cards and keep moving. The people that call you up are the ones that will take the web development process serious.

6. Give everyone you know 5 of your business cards friends family etc... Don't be cheap either tell them that you will give them a cut off of anything you make.

7. Your local Yellow pages. Business owners still use the yellow pages for some reason. I have a friend that owns a large design shop and the only advertising he does is in the Yellow pages. He keeps 10 designers/programmers busy year round with his yellow page ad. and he doesn't have any sales people.

8.Contact your local contiuing education center and find out about holding classes. Become a local expert.

Any way these are just a few ideas on getting that next all important web design client.
